The Electric Vehicle market is advancing by leaps and bounds. BMW has recently come up with their new product 530e iPerformance that will power up through an inductive charging station called a GroundPad. The GroundPad connects to its assigned CarPad which is mounted to the car. The system can transfer energy over a distance of eight centimeters via a magnetic field. This magnetic field gives rise to an electric current that charges the battery.
GroundPad is equipped to charge 3.2 kW of charging power and the efficiency of the system is 85 percent. It takes about three and a half hours to fully charge the 530e. Charging starts when the vehicle is stopped over the GroundPad, turned off and the charging will continue till the battery is charged 100 percent. GroundPad can acclimate to any weather from rains to snow. The system can be easily used outdoors as well.
The GroundPad also has a park assist function. Once the GroundPad and the car have a common Wi-Fi signal the GroundPad will display the picture of the car. The park assist will also guide the driver towards the correct charging position.
GroundPad is designed to charge the Electric Vehicle overnight. The BMW 530e will be launched in Germany. In future the company has plans to roll out the vehicle in UK, Us Japan, and China.
